This week’s wedding Wednesday tips are from one of my favorite venues in Detroit: The Whiskey Factory. Why do I love it there so much? It’s super unique, everything can be done in one place, and you can literally transform the space just how YOU want. Plus the staff is amazing and always “on it”. Check out below for some wedding planning tips from one of Detroit’s most popular wedding venues:
Detroit City Distillery @ The Whiskey Factory- Alyssa Young
Event Sales Manager (managed the event venue)
What do you do?
I am the Event Sales Manager here so my job is to sell the space, manage the venue, hire and manage all factory staff. I also coordinate all distillery tours, buyouts at our tasting room and work on building our internal event programming.
What do you love most about your job?I love being on the venue side of events. I am so proud of the space, so watching other people get excited about the space gets me excited. I also love that the owners of the company trust me to run the event space with complete creative freedom. I also love that every day is different and you never know what is going to happen.
I wish they knew what the average wedding costs base on guest count and that they actually created their own budget before venue shopping. I am all about full transparency when it comes to costs, so it so helpful when a couple knows what their budget is.
Planning a wedding does mean you have to make a lot of decisions and that can be overwhelming. If you are couple who struggles with being decisive, I would highly recommend hiring a wedding planner. They are worth every single penny in general but are especially crucial if you struggle with making decisions. **Erin totally seconds this and has a list of her favorites if you need help. This cannot be stressed enough, especially with venues where a lot of things need to be brought in.
Trust the professional, if a vendor is suggesting something will not work, please take their advice seriously. They do this every day and are genuinely trying to set you up for success. You should fee like a guest at your own wedding and every vendor is trying to make sure you are not stressed out on your big day.
And now some fun questions!
Wedding Cake. Love it or Leave it?
Love it, but just a small personalized ceremonial cutting cake! Do the dessert table for the guests, they love it!
What’s your favorite song to hear at a wedding?
Shout- Isley Brothers
What’s your current favorite wedding trend?
Getting all of your photos done beforehand so you can actually enjoy your reception and time with your guests.
***If you do a first look, you can even do your formal family photos before too!
