I was so excited when Mary + Shane asked me to come photograph their engagement photos in Chicago. I love it there and I loved that they wanted to share with me some of their favorite spots in the city. I knew it was going to be amazing, but their session was even better than I had imagined. I met them in their home where Mary had two of my favorite things: sparkles & rose’. She showed me a white sequin gown she had planned to wear for our sunset shots on the roof and I think I literally looked like a heart in eyes emoji! We spent the night laughing and running around the city – it was perfect. I soooooo can’t wait for their wedding day this fall!

Met: Junior year of college, through mutual friends (Western Michigan University)
How they met: During my freshmen year of college, my roommate Matt, whom I lived with in the dorms had gone to high school with Mary. Matt and I, along with a few others, continued to live in the same house junior and senior year. Towards the end of junior year I went to a small get-together with him, which happened to be at Mary’s house. I had met many of his high school friends previously, but never Mary. Mary and I began dating a few months after our first meeting and it’s been a fantastic, fun and exciting journey ever since!!
Their engagement story: We have been together almost ten years now, so we have accumulated a lot of photos of the two of us throughout the years, even if the first few years were before smart phones. One day, while she was at work, and on a day we both had the next day off, I came home early and strung about a hundred photos of her and I throughout the years in our condo. She came home from work, and I told her to wait a minute before she came in while I organized a few last minute things (she thought I told her to wait because I picked up a couple puppies, so you can imagine her disappointment). When she entered the condo, she knew what was going to happen and I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me.
