When I first met Alex back in March at Great Lakes Coffee, I felt like I had known her forever. Plus, we share the same two loves: Detroit & Food. We discussed how special and personal her day was going to be and how important photography was to her, while we sipped the most delicious coffee (holy crap, that Sexy Mexi is the most amazing coffee drink I have ever had!). What’s different about Alex’s love of Detroit is that she isn’t even a US citizen – she’s Canadian! They decided to celebrate their day in Detroit, because her and Yerv share a lot of great memories here and love to come whenever they can.
Alex & Yerv exchanged vows in the gorgeous Belle Isle Conservatory garden on what was probably the hottest, but also windiest days of the summer. The wind just about ripped her cathedral length veil off of her head, but you know what? She looked absolutely breathtaking in it. Everything about their day had special meaning. Alex wore her Mother’s veil, she walked down the aisle to the only song she can play on the piano by heart and Yerv surprised her with tickets to see Eddie Vedder when he came, and that’s the song they danced to. Another cool tidbit from their day; this was the very first Punch Bowl Social Detroit wedding ! ( you guys, I seriously can’t even say how phenom their food is! And is’t farm to table – everything is made in house!)! It was an amazing day, with amazing people. Alex & Yerv, you two are amazing. Yerv, I know I only had the pleasure of meeting you that day, but you are fantastic and I totally understand all of the gushing Alex did about you when we met up. Both of your families were so delightful and Alex, your Mom is phenomenal. She made me feel at home when I met up with you. I wish you both nothing but the best and I am so glad I had the opportunity to get to know the both of you. Cheers! xo, e

Wedding planning advice for newly engaged couples: Try to find a balance between need and want. Keep things simple, sometimes less is more. Add personal touches and tell people a bit about them before the wedding so that guests can appreciate the things you did and why you did them (e.g., in my program I shared details about music I chose so that guests got some insight into the music they were hearing).
